Capogiro Gelateria
I'm not much of a gelato fan, but their sorbetto is wonderful.
Taqueria Veracruzana
Burritos are gigantic and made fresh to order - and delicious. Prices are cheap and the heaps of table chips are great with gigantic portions of spicy salsa and salsa verde.
Nodding Head Brewery and Restaurant
There is nothing average about this place. Their beer selection has something for everyone (my favorite being the Grog). Their food is great ranging from vegan sandwiches to a lovely rack of ribs slathered in sauce. This is one of the restaurants with the famous frites and the bourbon mayo sauce, great here too. Jazz brunch on Sundays too. Prices are right and the service is nice. The only problem is arriving without your entire party, don't even try to get a table without all 6 of your party of 6. No reservations.
Continental
just too crowded with the yuppie old city striped button down & jeans crowd. blech. but the wasabi mustard covered mountain of shoe string fries were good the one time i was there.
The Spot at Rittenhouse
Right up there with NYPD, this new pizza joint serves up some nice crispy NY style slices. While a little further from my home base, it's not far from friends' houses and regular hang out spots. I'll be back for many a slice.
NYPD Pizza
One of the absolute best slices in town. Being a NYer, I was relieved to find this spot over a year ago. After going to over a dozen pizza places in a year, I found NYPD and it took me back home. The owner, Guy, is a Brooklynite too :)
Penang
The quality of food matches that of the NYC location I frequented many times when I lived up in NY. Remarkably good for a chain.
New Deck Tavern
Their bangers and mash was the sorriest excuse for bangers and mash I've ever seen in my entire life. Breakfast links is what they served, crummy skinny breakfast links. And their Guinness pipes were cruddy the night I went.
Giwa
Quick Korean eats. I had the dol-sot bibim bap which is a traditional Korean dish with a traditional twist most likely new to most. 'Bibim bap' literally translates to 'mixed rice' and that's what it is: rice with various veggies and either beef/chicken/soy on top. A little bit of sesame oil and some hot Korean pepper sauce served in a sizzling stone bowl. Sort of has that Ruth's Chris sizzling plate feeling to it, but much better and much cheaper.
Will go back to try their beef entrees.
Will go back to try their beef entrees.
Morimoto
One of the very few restaurants I've ever been to which has lived up to all the hype and then some. The decor, the service and good god the food - all incredible. I don't eat that nasty raw stuff though, so I can't say I had the *real* Morimoto experience without the omakase, but whatever, everything on the menu was incredible.
