Pho Ha
good cheap pho. lots of meat that was of similar quality as other good pho places. mmmm, i like pho
Vietnam Restaurant
good pho, but not amazing. great appetizers though and cute hostesses.
Pho Cali
this place is the best pho i've had and is very cheep too. to be honest, i haven't had too much pho in my day, but this place is still delicious. yum yum and cheap.
Pho Cafe Saigon
decent fast pho. tastes good enough to keep me coming back, but not amazing.
South Philadelphia Tap Room
Bar has a good selection of high quality beers. Not as much selection as Eulogy or monks, but the beers they do have are of similar high quality. the food all is very fresh and very good too.
LaScala's
got the cheese ravioli was very good, as were the meatballs that came with it. everyone who i was with seemed to like their food. it wasn't the kind of food that after eating there i will crave to have again, but it was definitely a decent italian place with a nice atmosphere. i guess the biggest problem was that it wasn't BYO, so in the scheme of things it ends up costing more for a similar experience that one can get at a far superior byo
Lolita
food was very good in this higher end mexican place. the watermelon margarita was in season and was delicious. all of us enjoyed our food. I got the 3 chile ribs and they made my belly smile.
fun time, and very good food, although expensive for mexican.

Amada
i just got the chef's surprise for $45 per person. they really presented a wondrous feast. the price ends up being steep but i feel as if i got my money's worth. the sangria was also incredible.
Capogiro Gelateria
this gelato is made wit more bits of real happiness than ice cream. i had the mint chocolate chip and it tasted like fresh mint leaves with dark chocolate. this place has a special place in the ice cream part of my brain.
Bobby Chez Incorporated
the only thing i've had hear were the crab cakes as take out. they were incredible. mostly meat and very delicious. mmmm
Caribou Cafe
the food was good. i enjoyed the french onion soup and the salad with a whole duck leg (duck confit) on it was tasty and pretty cool.
carrot mint soup was also very good and creative. overall i think it's a nice lil place.

Alma De Cuba
i went for restaurant week once and the food was very good, but no amazing. this seems to be the trend with most star restaurants. but i did enjoy myself and it is worth going to for cuban food, you just may not wet your pants from the quality (although could have been because it was restaurant week).
Lee's Hoagie House
good hoagies. not the best, but considering its a chain they are good.
Taqueria Veracruzana
mmmmm, tacos
Primo Hoagies
it may not be the first one (pretty sure that was the south philly location) but it's still delicious and tasty and yummy.
Bucks County Coffee Co
decent coffee place. the smoothies aren't bad considering i don't know if they have any real fruit in them.
Tangerine
The food here is very good as was the service. i wouldn't say that i was so amazed with the food that it would rank as a favorite restaurant of mine, but it was very very good. the sirloin was very good and had a very interesting taste, i would strongly recommend it. the crispi muscles were good, but it was weird having deep fried muscles, it's one of the few things that i don't think is better when fried. also, not the greatest beer list for such an upscale place.
NYPD Pizza
good pizza
Geno's Steaks
these steaks taste terrible and i would reccomend pat's over this place, although i'm still not a huge fan of pats. but if you're a tourist i guess you have to go to one of the two. choose pats.
Izzy and Zoe's
this is one of the most annoyingly slow restaurant's at penn. I've been there on a pretty empty night with no one waiting ahead of me and had two salalds taking about 35 minutes to get. The only thing that can be quick is the bagels. in addition, some of the people who work the counter know so little English that it is very difficult to order the food, esp since they don't know how to use the registers, which makes it even harder.
chicken soup with matzo balls are good.

Jamaican Jerk Hut
i really liked this place. we walked inside the place and thought "wow, what a quaint little crap hole, but it smells so good." then we got the offer to eat outside, at which we walked back outside and around the restaurant. there is a huge outdoor area with bright colored picnic benches and a covered area that all had a very inner-city-island feel to it. i absolutely loved the atmosphere.
we then had a very friendly waitress that was helpful in making our food decisions. the jerk chicken was very good, and spicy enough for spice lovers, although would probably be overwhelming to those without a fine tuned taste for spicy. we also had the beef jerk patty (i think) and it was yummy too.
fun place, i'd imagine it would be great for groups.

Fez Moroccan Restaurant
come here and eat really good food with your hands. lots of fun for large groups. personally i like marakesh down the street better, i'm sure they both have their good and bad days since they both have the exact same menu.
Barrel's Fine Food
half decent salad, but not worth my $8.
Ludwig's Garten
I cannot comment much about the food. we got the fries and they were fine. nothing special like Eulogy's, but they were good. The beer selection is very good though. we all got the sampler which was $8 (i think) for about 4-5 ounces of five different beers (so good price for lots of different good German beers). i didn't find any beer that i loved, but most of them were at least good. The place is also nice and spacious with a very chill atmosphere for a saturday night.
So as friedman above said, i would not reccomend going for food, the beer is worth a trip.

Kaffa Crossing
I enjoyed this place. Most of the dishes involve meat and your choice of rice or couscous. There is also a choice of spicy or mild, the spicy did have a kick to it but it wasn't to the point where i was needing water after every bite (although i do have a high tolerance for spice.
the beef was tasty and a nice change of pace with very strong flavors that filled my belly nicely. the best part though was the fresh smoothies, in which they used only fresh fruit and stuff. my smoothie was delicious fruit with a hint of cinnamin that was surprising but surprisingly tasty.

Di Bruno Brothers
went there to get some cheese. the guys working the cheese counter were incredibly friendly and helpful. we tried a few different cheeses and ended up with two delicious cheeses including a brie and one other that i don't know the name of. It cost me MUCH less than it would have at a normal supermarket and the quality and service was far superior. Also got a french baguette and got it sliced, two rolls for $3.
Monkey Bar
cool and trendy bar that was a bit more expensive than i expected. There was nothing monkey about the place which was very disappointing. I was hoping to see monkeys swinging all over the place and the bartender to be wearing a monkey suite. there wasn't even a picture or image of a monkey in the entire place.
there was supposed to be a monkey themed drink menu, which i was very excited for. The bar tender said that all ingredients for the monkey themed drinks were out so we couldn't see the menu. made me very unhappy.
apart from the lack of primate entertainment I thought the bar was very nice and intimate. would have been great for a date, except it got so loud in there from music that i could barely hear what i was saying.

Pico de Gallo
Small place with fun atmosphere and cute, nice waitresses. the food though was very very very mediocre. paying for cab, and food and cab back made the experience not really worth it. and the margarita mix they have was pretty terrible. all in all, i'd say the food is cheap which is good, but i would not recommend it
Melrose Diner
i went here because of its recent award on aolcity guide and i was going to be in the area. the breakfast food was definitely good, which is what we got. i left full and satisfied. there was nothing too special about the food, but it was definitely good. the waitresses were all nice and the atmosphere was very diner-ish.
Red Sky
The fries "with 5 gormet sauces" to start out were very good. i then got the chilean seabass which was pretty bad. usually i like salt, but it was so salty that i could barely eat half of it. so that was over $20 down the drain. not a lot in the long run, but for a student that was really bad. the drinks were ok, but nothing too special. the atmosphere was generically trendy.
Mad Mex
went for food. it was good but not great. i enjoyed the chicken chimichanga, but it was way too salty (and i usually like salt).
Continental Mid-Town
great for brunch. cool atmosphere. i had the special which was a "cheddar and grits cake" which was really really good, on top of it was two over easy eggs and bacon. it was very yummy. i also liked that upon arival, they gave a cranberry icy "pallet cleanser." was a little expensive, but not much more than the local philly diner but was a whole lot better
La Viola
small cozy place with very good food and a reasonable price. the calamari was grilled, not fried, and was surprisingly good and tasty. The lobster ravioli was also very good, but after the first one, the lobster flavor went unnoticed. quick and friendly waiters too.
Monk's Cafe
Not close to as good as Eulogy.
- Beer list not as large as Eulogy
- servers were less friendly that Eulogy
- servers were less willing or able than at Eulogy to help navigate the large beer list
- food smelled delicious, but we had already eaten so i didn't get any to eat
- There was no where for two people to sit and drink around 10pm on a Wednesday,

Eulogy Belgian Tavern
Just went back to Eulogy. I must say, it was amazing. the fries are the best i've ever had as were the beer muscles. On tap i tried their Delerium Tremens and Kwak, both of which were incredibly good, i was supprised. The Bratwurst was really really good and my friend loved his fish and chips.
The wait staff is incredibly good too. I've never seen a group of waiters/waitresses that seem so happy with their jobs. they are very knowledgeable on all their beers which is very impressive considering the long list. I always take their suggestions on which beer to drink.
The meal came out to $75 for two people, but the smiles on our faces made it so worth it. the price is surprisingly high if you consider it merely bar food, but i would say the quality of the dining is much higher than any bar. i would recommend making reservations on opentable.com if you're planning on going on a weekend as the wait can be quite long.

Reading Terminal Market
great variety of stuff. george's pizza makes amazing fresh cut pasta that can be taken home and cooked. great fishes (i got tolapia and cooked it at home) was very cheap and very good. produce also was good. I forget what cheese steak place was there ,but i know i didn't like it
World Cafe Live
saw an amazing concert here. good buffalo wings. the lobster ravioli was surprisingly really really good, very enjoyed. good beer too.
Best House Pizzeria
good pizza. lots of beer. stuff always on tv. near Clark park so you can go on the swings after eating (unless its late in which case you might get stabbed).
Pattaya Grill
I realize after going back once again, that i truly dislike this place. i tried some of my girlfriend's dish that was "good" and it was terrible. i got a chicken salad, and was impressed that there were actually more pieces of chicken than lettuce. Unfortunately the chicken was flavorless and dry. not only that, but this was what the waitress recommended that i get at that time since i had already eaten dinner and just needed a snack. so in conclusion, i still know people who really like this place, but i will hopefully never have to go there again.
Rangoon
never had Burmese food before. we got a whole bunch of dishes and shared them all, and it was good and relatively cheap.
the coconut rice with spicy curry chicken was really good as was this calamari salad thing. there was some sort of firecracker appetizer that was tasty as well. I've been wanting to try Burmese for a while and glad i did.

Bonte Wafflerie
I would recommend that most people try this place. This is not a normal waffle as stated in the description. it is gooey on the inside and very sweet, so it's more like a snack than a breakfast. so expect gooey, it's not undercooked, it's supposed to be that way (it's just weird if you're not expecting it. cute place to stop when shopping with the lady friend.
also note that when you buy a coke, it's an 8oz glass bottle of coke. so if you like that kinda stuff, good for you, but if you're thirsty, get something else.

Le Bus
not my favorite place, but there's always something that tastes good on the menu for everyone. if you're a fan of really good bread, come here.
Pattaya Grill
My friends all love this restaurant so there must be something good about it. I on the other hand, don't really like this place at all. i've been there twice and ordered stuff that sounded good, but just didn't taste very good at all. The Tai Iced tea was great though.
so my overall advice is that you should try this place in the area, but i wouldn't personally recommend it to people.

Vietnam Restaurant
good place. the BBQ special app was nice because it was pretty much a sampler of a bunch of the appetizers and each of them was great. the iced coffee was good too. nice atmosphere and great hot sauce.
Lorenzo & Son Pizza Incorporated
very good pizza but not the best i've ever had. the pizza is very greasy, which i love. but those who care about the internal workings of their body may want to prepare to dab the grease off with a large beach towel.
2 Goodfellas
food there wasn't very good
Aromatic House of Kabob
great place with nice staff and good service. the humus was great as well as that yogurt sauce stuff. They have this eggplant thing with sautee garlic and onion. the kabobs are all great. overall, it's a great middle eastern place down in old city. also have the best baklava i've ever had that wasn't home made.
Penang
good Malaysian food. if you like highly spiced food that is very different from the normal. I'd strongly recommend this place to anyone with an adventurous pallet.
i can't wait to go back here. it's been a while, but i feel like i remembered some really good coconut rice

Sitar Indian Restaurant
decent indian buffet,....i agree
Bui's
best bacon egg and cheese or sausage egg and cheese or just awesome breakfast sandwiches. i love this place.
always do the salt, pepper and ketchup
always do the salt, pepper and ketchup
Cafe Spice
went there for a party, not food. but the drinks were good with a $2000 bar minimum. fun dancing, i'm not sure if they provided the DJ or if we brought it. but it was a fun night
The Franklin Fountain
i could have sworn i left a review here. Best ice cream in Philly and definitely the best ice cream I've ever had. i would recommend to anyone who likes food. if lactose intolerant, go for their other deserts, such as pie, which is amazing too. The Vesuvius sundae is incredible although my favorite (so far) is the Franklin Mint.
the owners, Eric and Ryan, are also incredibly friendly and welcoming which makes the place even better.

Marrakesh
went there again for the first time in over a year. this place is better than fez which is right down the street. fun place to go on a date if both people don't mind being a little messy (with food) since you eat with your hands. its $31 per person including tax and tip since they include a 15% tip on the bill. i'm usually full by the 3rd course and there are seven courses. so come hungry. very hungry
Radicchio Cafe
i'm not a fish person, but the fish here is very good and prepared amazingly. it was very good, but personally i'd prefer some good sushi so was not too impressed here. the fish came with a side of mashed potatoes with some carrots and broccoli, that wasn't too impressive. The Buffalo Mozzarella was very very good as were the muscles. the cannoli were amazing.
the service was pretty good.
i guess if you want very good fresh fish come here. but overall i would strongly recommend La Locanda Del Ghiottone over this.

Mad Mex
nachos were good as were the Big Azz Margaritas. Margaritas were good but not great. but they sure are powerful in such a way that when they are only $6 (after 10pm i think) it's a cheap way to get loosened up (for those that are into that kind of thing)
Philly Diner
Decent and convenient diner on penn's campus. the food is definately not bad although it's expensive compared to smaller diners you could go to outside Philly.
Buddakan
went there with 20 people for a family dinner. we sat at so we got a whole lot of dishes and shared the bunch. it was a while ago so i don't remember exactly what i got, but i just remember loving pretty much everything. yummy.
great ambiance with a raised, lit, center table which is fun to sit at.
great ambiance with a raised, lit, center table which is fun to sit at.
Friday Saturday Sunday
small place that seems as if it would be great for dates. food was great, bill was expensive. it's one of those places that seems to be worth the high price unlike most expensive restaurants with just good food.
La Locanda Del Ghiottone
Best Italian Restaurant I've ever been to. The only thing close is when I visit my best friend Vinny's family who came right from Italy. The Bruchetta is amazing and the mushroom crepe thing made me realize i like mushrooms it was so amazing. the ravioli was great as was every dish that all 5 people i've been there with had. the deserts are very good too. i've never had food that tastes as homemade as it does here.
the staff here is great and it makes me feel like i'm with an italian family in this small personal brick restaurant. Last time i was there the whole place broke out in song (diners and workers). great, fun place for both a date or just to go with friends

Scoop Deville
it's better than ben and jerry's or cold stone but doesn't come close to touching Franklin Fountain
Bubble House Company
I've enjoyed the food there whenever I've gone (all two times). the passion green tea flavor of bubble tea is really good. if i remember correctly, i liked different stuff they had that contained coconuts.
hemo's
Great food truck. amazing chicken sandwich. best chicken cheese steaks i've ever had. I'd recommend the chicken cheese steak with fried onions and Hemo sauce. always get the Hemo sauce.
Kochs Take Out Shop
Best Deli I've ever been to for sandwiches. i've seen larger sandwiches in new york, but even those don't seem as dense as these. don't come here if you're in a rush because the service is terribly slow, although they feed you while you wait. my advice is that if you're looking for an AMAZING sandwich, and a bit of time to kill, come here. you'll never regret it.
Blarney Stone
decent selection of beer. got a pitcher of magic hat #9 and it was good. the food there for dinner was actually very good (all of us thought so). not a huge fan of the bar night scene, but if you are you'll probably like this place a lot.
Smokey Joe's
not smokey any more, but still is the main bar to be at if you're at penn. definitely not my scene at all. if your scene is going out and getting wasted at some crappy bar, then you'll love this place. not exactly my style, but i do feel that it is a great bar for the typical college student
El Azteca II
Fun place to go with a large group. i went with 20 people. margaritas are decent. one handle of tequila yields 5 pitchers, two handles yields 10 pitchers. most of us enjoyed our food. would we have enjoyed the food sober? probably. the margaritas came in strawberry, lime or peach. mixing the flavors was fun. and they were decent with cheap crappy gross tequila.
Marathon Grill
they have a huge variety of food in a decent atmosphere. pretty sweet during the summer when everything is open. service is OK. food isn't amazing, but rarely disappoints. probably a good place for a date
Kilimandjaro
good place. you get a lot of good food for a very good price. $10 for lamb chops? you got it! The BYO aspect also makes for quite a festive experience
Eulogy Belgian Tavern
great atmosphere. i was there on a Saturday night and it was crazy all around, and went inside the Eulogy and it was great. there were a lot of people, but it didn't feel over crowded. i was able to hold a conversation. The waiters were great at recommending beers from their list of over 200. overall i can't wait to go back.
Farmicia
for someone who likes most food, i was very very unimpressed with this place. first of all, it's the only byo i've ever been to that cards. in addition, it's only a byo if you have 10 people or less, a little weird in my opinion. my apple and amish cheddar salad was good. i was told it would be "large and entre sized", it wasn't. in addition, that was supposed to be my main meal, but was served with the apetizers, so i was done before anyone else started eating. the salad did taste very good though. all the people around be got the mahi mahi, and the fish was pretty good. but the veggies and rice with beans were undercooked. the service was also AWFUL. it took over an hour to get us our appetizers and there were only 2 other tables of peole in the whole restaurant on a Thursday night.
Primo Hoagies
There were several years where i didn't like hoagies, except for here at Primo's. Now I like hoagies and still have yet to find one that is better than this original south philly source of gustatory satisfaction in the form of a Sarcone's roll with glorious meats n'stuff.
Rx
Food was all good with only size as the major complaint. The main courses are all very tiny. I was lucky to have not been in a main course mood and just got to appetizers (to meet the $16 minimum) and each appetizer was double the size of any Entree so i left with a full belly, unlike anyone else. the calamari was very good as was my romaine salad.
deserts were also a plus. they have a big selection of them and all are good if they're your type of food. people who like bread pudding, loved their chocolate bread pudding. i loved their chai creme brule and some sort of flourless chocolate torte thingie.

New Deck Tavern
decent food. $2 drafts after 10pm (at least on the thursday i was there). good selection of beers on tap including Guinness, Hoegaarden, and magic hat #9 among many others.
Lorenzo Pulizzi Pizza
yummy
Jones Restaurant
Steven star's take on on american home cooked meals. i've thoroughly enjoyed the macaroni and cheese, the burger, fried chicken on Belgian waffles. fun atmosphere and great food.
Pizza Rustica
been there once. liked it. i keep meaning to go back
Green Line Cafe
good bagels (you can get day old bagels for really cheap and they're good). if eating there, I'd recommend getting a bagel with humus since their cream cheese wasn't very good and their humus rocked with garlicy goodness.
Lee How Fook Tea House
Very good ratio of quality of price. the food is very reasonably priced for relatively good food. i have yet to go to the tea house though.
Barclay Prime
home of the $100 cheesesteak, which i refuse to ever get based on my cheesesteak philosophy. nonetheless, the service is impeccable and their recommended steak (i forget what it is at the moment) is amazing. steven star does a steak house well, although it is lacking of his usual trendy twist...in this venue it works well
The Capitol Grill
very good steakhouse, but very very expensive. you feel like you're schmoozing near people that are much more successful than i am (yet). all the food is very good and is quite an experience. if you have cash to blow or have a rich relative coming in to pick up the tab, this is quite an impressive place to visit.
Continental
just like continental midtown, but downtown. good food and martini's. friendly and very attractive waitresses. very trendy atmosphere but is a bit expensive, although would be a nice impressive place to take a date
Cavanaugh's Restaurant & Bar
lots of good beers on tap although still have the basics. the bar food is very good with good burgers and the best buffalo wings i've had in university city. in addition, they have specials often, my favorite is on wednesdays for $6.75 you get a cheeseburger, fries and buffalo wings. throw in a good beer with that and you got one happy belly
Marrakesh
again, i agree with all of kortina's comments. best for either a date or a large group of friends. finger food is fun. everyone always leaves stuffed.
Greek Lady
their Greek Lady Salad is very good and i'm a big fan of their Chicken gyro (all gyro are good but i like chicken best)
Pod
Great sushi. the sushi bar is a good way to pace yourself for getting lots of good sushi for not as much money. they have 4 dolar martini's on Wednesday nights after 10pm, which is half price. overall good atmosphere and very good food
Cosi
good sandwiches but awful drinks
White Dog Cafe
I agree with kortina. The $2 pints are quite scrumptious. the environment is very relaxed so its good for a night of just having a few drinks and relaxing with some conversation.
Swanky Bubbles
I went for Restaurant week and the selection was great. the sushi i had was ok (spicy tuna roll). the Calamari was a bit different but some of the best i've ever had.
i got the orange beef for dinner, and it was surprisingly great. i don't typically like fruity meats, but it didn't taste like orange, merely flavorful beef. it was on a bed of fries that are like thin ones from the boardwalk with some wasabi sauce on them, quite delicious.
the chocolate fondue was also a great desert for a date. The champagne cocktails were good, but on the expensive side (for me as a college student)

CinCin
This is my favorite Chinese restaurant and I've been here many times. The Peking Duck is to die for and the dumplings are some of my favorite that I've had anywhere (the dipping sauce is amazing). the waiters are also always friendly. it is a Chinese and French place, but i don't really notice the French flair of it.
In addition the deserts are amazing especially the fresh berries in season which come on a white chocolate moose in a pastry shell (i guess that's where the french flair comes in).

Tequila's and Los Catrines
every dish was great. The margarita's were awsome, especially by the pitcher. i would reccommend this place to anyone.
Pat's King of Steaks
The meat is fatty. The rolls are incredibly thin (like white bread) and the cheese just isn't that great. not a bad place for tourists, but that's about it. much better than geno's. If you like spicy, go for the black roasted hot peppers they have with the condoments
Kabobeesh
Chicken and beef rolls are good. I'd also highly reccommend the chicken kabob (i think that's what it was called) with the spinich and potatoes. it was very good as long as you like spicy.
