Marrakesh
Just as good as everyone says it is. 7 courses are: salad, savory pastry, chicken, beef/lamb, couscous, fruit, bahklavah and tea. The burgandy house wine is extremely drinkable, and reasonably priced. I would recommend a light breakfast and lunch, as there is no way you could eat it all otherwise. We'll be going back, for sure. Oh, and service was prompt and unobtrusive. Two thumbs up.
Dark Horse Pub
The dark horse is a twisted maze of many rooms, with mutiple bars to choose between.
anyhow, I thought the food was "above average" for pub fare, and the portions were big, very satisfying. I got a real pour on boddingtons ... nitrogen fed, which was a nice surprise. I had one of the best pulled pork sandwhiches ive had in philly. (jamaican jerk ...pleasantly spicy). worth second visit next time im in the area.

Artful Dodger
completely average pub fare, but nice atmosphere.
cantina los caballitos
Cute, somewhat small restaurant. Noisy because they pack so many table into a small space. Has a bar (Someone was smoking, WTF!). Pretty small menu, which led me to try the stewed goat, which I found to be quite unpleasant. My wife had the stewed suckling pig, which was quite tasty. Both were a shade expenive (17). We both had straight-up martinis, which were quite good. Almost excellent, but not quite. Worth a try, but avoid the goat unless you know you like really gamey meats.
las vegas lounge
Good if you're on a budget. Cheap drafts etc.
Black Sheep
Slightly above average pub/bar atmosphere. Decent food. Kinda small, so it gets freakishly loud, and the waitstaff is spread a little thin. But, if you're in the neighborhood and looking for a watering hole, this place will do in a pinch.
Las Cazuelas
"upscale mexican food," whatever that means. You can get more trendy takes on traditional mexican dishes at this place, and its BYO, which is KEY. food is a shade pricey for what you get, but its a solid offering, and the atmosphere is great (even if its a little cramped). Worth checking out.
Continental Mid-Town
expeeeensive!!!!
Franco and Luigi's
I think they always sing "opera" (really show tunes) accompanied by piano. Thats their thing.
Food was great, and it was BYO. Nice atmosphere.
a shade pricey (~20 for pasta ...), but if you like vocal entertainment, probably worth it.

La Viola
Real small and busy so get a reservation.
Food was good, menu was very reasonabley priced.
and BYO, so you can't beat that.
we'll be going back again to give it another shot.

Grace Tavern
Nice dive bar, has its own local patronage, so you'll feel comfortably out of place. The sausage sandwhich was quite eatable. My wife made the mistake of ordering a veggie burger here. Not a good idea. Supposedly the sister bar to Monks, but you'd never know.
Gusto Pizzeria
Good pizza, reasonable price. Certainly one of the better non-gourmet pizzarias in philly, and centrally located. The tomato pie was solid, but not exceptional.
The Abbaye
Have to agree wit h all the "great food, great beer" comments. Also, they always have new homegrown art on the walls, which is pretty nifty. Cheesesteak = barnone, but the rest of the menu is solid as well.
White Dog Cafe
this place is nationally famous for its use of local ingrediants, and environentally friendly everything. That being said, its pretty pricey for what you get.
Alma De Cuba
saw some good jazz here, seems like a nice place.
Pico de Gallo
Pretty bad mexican food, and not BYO!. Go anywhere else.
Longhorn Steakhouse
You can definately do better. This place is a step down from outback, which isnt saying much. I had a terrible burger here. Blech.
Abilene Southwest Roadhouse
Never eaten, but I saw a great Springstein cover band here (Mike Rocket). Nice atmosphere, and a great small music venue. Not really my thing, as they cater to a southwest crowd, but seemed pretty ok.
Karina's
I had an awesome squid-ink pasta dish here (I forget the name). So Yummy, and small but very cute place.
Pesto
The summary says it all. This is the sister BYO restaurant of Io y Tu. The food is very excellent, and prices are reasonable. Very easy to get to also, right on broad street.
Mr Martino's Trattoria
Like they say, its a small menu, but pretty much everything is above average. They are famous for their pumpkin ravioli, which is only available during the fall, of course. Great atmosphere, and BYOB.
Nodding Head Brewery and Restaurant
I had a pretty damn tasty bbq pulled pork sandwhich here, and maybe the best steak fries Ive ever had. As far as the brewed on-site beer goes, the hoppy ale i had was awesome, but the rest i tried were pretty lacking.
McGillin's Old Ale House (est. 1860)
The words "Ale House" say it all. Very communal atmosphere ... long, long tables, and cheap cheap pitchers. A great place to go to finish the night off.
can get pretty loud tho.

Vientaine Cafe
Pretty much as good as it gets for thai food in philadelphia. decent prices.
Cosi
overpriced, tiny portions. too trendy for its own good. blech.
Jim's Steaks
even the long lines move fast. If you are on south street, and need a steak, this is your place.
Szechuan Tasty House
safe chinese takeout.
Doobies
I was underwhelmed. And NO FRIES? how do they stay in business?
Shank's and Evelyn's Luncheonette
Super tasty, but a schmeensy bit on the heavy side. Great down-home south philly atmosphere. A must visit.
L'Angolo Ristorante
Top 5 italian food in the city (not the absolute best, but close), but the best ambiance at an italian restaurant in all of philly. Worth checking it out. But make a reservation well in advance, as they are always busy.
Charlie's Hamburgers
this place is worth the drive if you are a hamburger lover.
Mama Palma
Bettterthan average pizza, but overpriced.
Lombardi's was 10x better. We'll miss you ...

Chaleo Thai Restaurant
Great curry ...
Moriarty's Restaurant & Bar
Slightly above average burgers. So-So atmosphere.
Fado Irish Pub
A little pricey overall ...
Good but overpriced food.
Havent had good luck with the beer ... watery, etc.
Usually packed.

Dwights Southern Bar B Que
But its going to be a long wait. Make sure to call your order in beforehand, and dont count on it being ready when you get there. Not a good place if you are in a hurry. But, if you aren't, its worth it. Make sure you get cornbread.
Abyssinia Ethiopian Restaurant
Good food, but very slow, as mentioned. If you are in the area and want a better option, check out Dahlak.
Pat's King of Steaks
Gee, I wish I could edit my review to say that it is a shade pricey for the portion size.
Pat's King of Steaks
Pat's Rules, Geno's is evil, and Jim's, well, Jim's is on south street, so who cares. South Philly Rocks.
Salsolito Cafe Incorporated
Also called "The Giant Burrito Place"
Maggiano's Little Italy
The family style is great, but a little pricey. Sadly, not BYOB.
Don't get take out. !!!!! Crap.

Wasabi House
Gets 4 stars for price/value ratio.
Vesuvio Restaurant & Bar
Piss poor experience, but i never gave it a second chance ...
Artful Dodger
MEh ... ok if you dont have any other alternatives.
Kabobeesh
Try the chicken or beef roll, and dont forget to ask for the green sauce.
