Old Nelson Food Company

There are a few of these in the City now. I hope they do well - but they are mostly like an upscale Wawa.

A good choice for a quick sushi lunch. The Toro Giza hand roll is yummy and the Bento boxes are a decent value. Service can be spotty and the decor - especially upstairs - could use an overhaul.

Such great pies and dessert choices. The filling tasty food can sap your energy for dessert -so SAVE ROOM. Love the pecan pie here.

SO unique and a great find. Be sure to try some of the interesting flavors like "Anise/Fennel" and spicy Butterscotch. The classic chocolate ice cream is always a winner. Nice choices for shakes, too.

Naked Chocolate Cafe

Delicious Strawberry SHortcake cupcakes. A wide variety of hot chocolate beverages. Neat to visit and a nice gift option around valentine's day or for the "Dad/Mom who has everything". Edgy-chic counter girlks and guys serve up with a blase attitude.

Nice atmosphere and a terrific, varied bar with a lively happy hour in the summer. Mostly "suits' and expense account types. The $8.00 lunch is a deal.

Yuck-o! Super cheap, pre-fab canned food served by underpaid "hoodlums" with attitude. Just awful on so many levels.

VIC SUSHI BAR

Yuck! Too small and although they are nice owners, the fish is not fresh and does not turn over quickly enough.

Not a holy grail - but worth a try.

Definitely a once or twice in a lifetime, special occaision place. So expensive - but worth every exotic, fresh bite. I had the $100 Omikase and each of the 7 courses was more delicious than the last.

Capogiro Gelateria

You can't beat the innovative flavor combos that "sing" in your mouth. A mini-cone topped with house-made unsweetened whipped cream is a safe rout to go. Try the purist fave "fior de latte" or Bourbon Butterscotch. The Grapefruit Campari, Bool Orange and Pomelo sorbettos are tributes to citrus varietals. I LOVE It. Pricey - but so worth it.

Total dive bar. I am too scared to even go in, although I pass by it all the time.

London Grill

Reviewed on Mar 4th, 2008
What an odd brunch we had in the noisy main dining area at London Grill. Not a great place to take a 3 year old! The oatmealt Brulee was a strange melange of steel cut, slightly gluey oatmeal surrounded by a pool of creme anglaise. Tooped with luscious fresh berries. Burgers and pastas seemed to be a safer and tastier set of options.

Bistro St Tropez

Reviewed on Mar 4th, 2008
I was surpries at how much I enjoyed myself in the bright yellow and stainless steel dining room at Bistro St. Tropez. Our table had a full view of the murky Schuyllkill river below. The entree salad I ordered was a TRUE Nicoise - and the greens were fresh and crisp. This is a place I always forget to visit and am pleasantly reminded how much I like it when I do.

Matyson

Matyson - owned by Matt and Sonya (get it?) is a cute, small space with a great fresh and seasonally changing menu. The lunch entrees and sandwiches are always good and any grilled fish entree I have tried has been so yummy.

Soooo over-rated. But tasty (pricey) drinks and a yup-a-fied vibe are OK for the after-work set. The food was only fair and the sashimi-grade tuna??? NOT!!

El Vez

Reviewed on Dec 1st, 2006
Now, I have only had take-out so I can not comment on the "experience" f dining at El Vez - but the food and especially the guacamole was very good. as other reviewers say - very high prices for basic Mexican fare. I guess you are paying for the Stephen Starr name.

Qdoba Mexican Grill

Reviewed on Dec 1st, 2006
This is a fast-food restaurant and the food is absolutely LOADED with fat and calories. A chicken burrito with cheese and sour cream has 1210 calories. ACK! The naked burrito is a better choice in that you save 330 calories from the 13 inch tortilla. Tasty, filling and NOT for the dieter!

Tequila's and Los Catrines

Reviewed on Nov 15th, 2006
I love this place! From the eclectic decor and good service (save for the snooty, bitchy hostess at the front) to the fresh-made guac and delectable carne asade, I LOVE THIS PLACE. It is top-of-the-line gourmet mexican dining. Great bar and delish maragritas made the way the were MEANT to be served.

Soooooo over-rated. This high-priced, snooty-serviced (by good looking, thin, white gay waiters) Mexican fusion was good but not great. CASH ONLY and BYO T (Tequila) for the tasty home-made margarita mix du jour. The Carne Asada we had, while tender and well-seasoned, was drowned in too much of a rich sauce. Not cheap and not nearly as good as Los Catrines/Tequila's.

Square On Square

Square on square is a good choice for chinese - especially the reasonbly priced lunch specials. Portions are large and not greasy. It can get crazy in there over peak lunch hours - so be prepared to wait for a table.

Primo Hoagies

Reviewed on Nov 15th, 2006
I enjoy the wraps at Primo' since *gasp* I don't "do" hoagies. The Nonna's Veggie and Chicken Milano are great. You can not eat there - only take out (at least the one I go to.). Very reasonable too.

Miran Korean Restaurant

Excellent, cheap Korean Lunches (dinner prices are higher) including a yummy kalbi box and dol sot bi bim bap. Brand new and very nicely family-run. Great during the winter when you need a steaming hot bowl of flavor!

Shiroi Hana

Reviewed on Nov 15th, 2006
LOVE Shiroi Hana. While not a top-of-the line sushi bar, it does offer a wide array of maki and ULTRA fresh fish at reasobale prices. The downstairs part of the restaurant is clean and comfortable and the nigiri and maki were terrific. I sat at the bar and felt welcome. Much better than (the pricier) Genji in my opinion.

Genji

Genji just ain't what it once was. While they still offer good fresh fish, the high prices and icy-cold stares of the sushi chefs were not welcoming. I much prefer Shiroi Hana or Mizu.

chick-fil-a

Reviewed on Nov 15th, 2006
Too tell ya the truth I am surprised that Chick-fil-A is even on this site. It is a FAST FOOD joint and not really a gastronomic experience. I don't really eat fast food anyway, but I prefer the Chicken choices at Chick-Fil_A to a fast food burger any day. The (ultra sugary) lemonade can also be a craveable fix on a hot summer day.

Famous Dave's

Reviewed on Nov 15th, 2006
I am not a BBQ person - but I like the corn muffins (more like cupcakes) and the BBQ chicken at Famous Daves. The chain atmosphere is like a rustic, cabin version of TGI Friday's. It is a good, cheap choice to take kids, as well.

Day By Day

Reviewed on Nov 15th, 2006
Day By Day is a staple for me and for those at my big law firm. They do catering for us and are a good solid "normal" place to get a nice lunch either cold sandwiches, salads or a speacial hot meal of the day. Some of the wait staff has been there forever and while they are nice people, can be a bit "flaky". The tossed salads are huge, fresh and tasty and in the summer the gazpacho ROCKS!
